Samsung announced that it will unveil the Galaxy Note 8 during an Unpacked event on Seinfeld Porn ParodyAug. 23, so we know when we'll be getting our first official glimpse of the successor to the most infamous smartphone in history — but we still don't know for certain when we'll be able to order one of our own.
That date might have been inadvertently leaked ahead of schedule by Samsung itself. The company's Australian website posted some background details about a Note 8 screen replacement program, which stated the promotion will begin on Aug. 25, two days after the phone's launch event in NYC.
Cautious shoppers would need their own Note 8 before they can even consider enrolling in the program, so it's not a stretch to conclude that the phones will be available to order in Australia and other major markets at the same time.
Samsung pulled the documentation from the site, but not before Australian outlet Ausdroidcould report on the potential pre-order date, and BGRsnapped a screenshot of the page.
There were no other details about the Note 8 or its launch available in the post, so we don't have any insight on when the phone is slated to ship or when it will hit retail stores.
Specs about the Note 8 were also absent from the post, but we have a pretty good idea of what to expect from other leaks. The device is slated to rock a massive 6.3-inch infinity display, with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, dual rear cameras, and a 3,300 mAh battery, which is smaller than the 3,500 mAh unit that blew up its predecessor.
This isn't the first (potential) self-leak from Samsung. The company tweeted out a photo of a device that looked suspiciously like what we're expecting see with the Note 8 from its Exynos handle earlier this month, and similar early website posts confirmed the Galaxy S8+and the Bixby nameearlier this year in the lead-up to the first Unpacked event, which was held in March.
Samsung's reps haven't yet responded to our request for comment. Since the company scrubbed the site of the details, we're guessing this leak has more going for it than most — but we won't be able to say anything for certain until Aug. 23.
