Although it's no longer "America's favorite pastime,Deborah Sullavan Archives" baseball is still at the heart of the county's popular culture and, along those lines, its Hall of Fame just hit a home run by adding Homer Simpson to its ranks.
SEE ALSO: Oculus founder thinks this wild anime film is the likely future of AROn Saturday, the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, added the animated character to its list of greats, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the episode "Homer at Bat," which aired in February of 1992.

Not only did an actual costumed Homer show up to accept the award, but the organization even came up with an award plaque which includes an elaborate inscription.
"Inept safety inspector turned citywide softball hero. Right fielder led Springfield nuclear plant to city championship game, then sacrificed his body to win it all," reads the plaque image, which the Hall of Fame shared on Instagram.

In the meantime, bask in the glory of everyone's accidental hero, Homer Jay Simpson, the pride of Springfield and now a peer right alongside baseball's greats.
