Move over,Happy (2015) Animoji. There's a sexier avatar in town.
Adult entertainment site CamSoda announced today that they're rolling out a new feature called "Camoji," which allows users to create their own customized digital stand-ins -- think Bitmoji but dirtier.
The idea is to give people an opportunity to use their Camoji to do their own interactive cam shows and earn money, without having to, ya know, reveal their identity.

Building a Camoji will be pretty similar to building a character in a video game. You can customize a range of avatar attributes, like hair and breast size.
Once you're done, you can drop your avatar into the site's "Camoji" channel where the function will be a lot like the regular CamSoda channels: Viewers can pay you to make your Camoji perform certain acts -- "dancing, masturbation and twerking," per the press release -- and also partake in some dirty talk.
Here's video of one in action which is very clearly NSFW.
CamSoda VP Daryn Parker notes in a press release:
“Given the popularity of Animoji, and now Memoji, which allow for people to create an avatar that looks just like them, we wanted to introduce a sexy alternative with a twist. With the launch of Camoji, now anyone can get into adult entertainment and anonymously interact with people, all under the guise of a XXX avatar. So whether you’re a mother of three, who can’t afford to have your kids’ friends’ parents find out or a C-level executive at a well-known company with clients, Camoji now allows you to moonlight as a cam model and anonymously interact with fans, all while earning money.”
Models for CamSoda are paid out based on the type of show and the number of viewers the show has, at certain rates, all based around tokens that viewers buy through the site. With the addition of Camojis, the site is hoping to garner even more models and viewers.
It remains to be seen how effective this kind of experience will be when it's actually widely rolled out. Putting a layer of anonymity between the cam girl and the viewer could potentially remove a vital level of perceived intimacy. But this seems to be just the first step in what CamSoda says will soo be a full digitization of this kind of experience.
In their press release, they express hope to one day use "face tracking technology and motion capture technology" to make Camojis even more realistic but, presumably, not so realistic that you can't still remain somewhat anonymous.
