A hastily sewn together Republican tax bill, dubbed by many on Twitter as the #GOPTaxScam, passed through the U.S. Senate after a critical vote at around 2 a.m. on Dec. 2. Now, as Americans wake up to the news on Saturday morning, social media is awash with responses. People are pissed.

But wouldn't you rather hear about my new puppies!?The GOP bill amounts to a sweeping overhaul of the U.S. tax code that also inserts "bonus" changes like a repeal of ObamaCare's individual mandate and approval to drill for oil in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. In a broader sense, it essentially funds significant tax cuts for the country's wealthiest using everyone else's money.
The bill, which already survived a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives, now has one more legislative hurdle to clear -- reconciliation talks to bring the House and Senate versions in line, followed by another vote -- before it can be signed into law.
Social media isn't taking the news quietly. Between the controversial bill itself, the numerous last-minute amendments added to appease different GOP interests, the hasty and one-sided process that brought it together, and the dead-of-night approval, it's clear that some not-small portion of the American public is feeling betrayed by their elected officials this morning.
