The movie picks up exactly where The Force Awakensleft off with a cliffhanger on the cliffs of the planet Ahch-To, where Luke Skywalker had gone -- and covered his tracks -- in search of the first Jedi temple. But Rey disturbs that retirement by presenting Luke with his original lightsaber, the one lost on Bespin in The Empire Strikes Back.

And of course, your other favorite Force Awakenscharacters are back: Finn, Poe Dameron, BB-8, Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, Hux and the mysterious Snoke.
The movie also features some of Carrie Fisher's final performance as General Leia -- which, if her brother Todd's suggestion is accurate, could be split between Episodes VIII and IX. [Update: Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy just officially refuted this.]
