It's a scientific fact that Bill Murray makes everything better.
Even March Madness.
SEE ALSO: How Derek Jeter's once-mocked startup became a sports media powerhouseMurray is Taste of Future Sister-in-lawa noted Chicago sports fan. But one year after becoming a sad NCAA Tournament meme, he's again in the stands supporting the Xavier University Musketeers out of Cincinnati, Ohio.
But happyBill Murray was a delightful sight in the stands during a Xavier win Thursday, and the species may well be spotted again Saturday.
If you're wondering or have forgotten what exactly is going on, here's the deal.
Luke Murray, son of Bill, is a Xavier assistant coach. Musketeers head man Chris Mack even calls him "one of the top young assistant coaches in America." The very last line of Luke's bio on the Xavier website reads casually: "His father, Bill, is an Emmy and Golden Globe winning comedian and actor."
Back in 2010, when Luke was an assistant at Wagner College, Jeff Eisenberg of Yahoo Sports asked about his famous father.
"I was always driven by sports, particularly basketball," Luke said then. "That's been my life since I was a little kid. I have an older brother who didn't really think about acting or anything along those lines either. There wasn't any pressure to get involved in any of those things, and I think my dad's probably happy that we didn't."
He also said he's a self-made basketball man. (Although Bill does have a bit of experience in hoops; who can forget Space Jam?)
"It's more or less a product of me being driven," Luke Murray told Eisenberg in 2010. "It's a misconception that people have that my dad just makes a couple calls and helps me get a job or an interview, but that hasn't been the case. I started on the ground floor and worked my way up. Every opportunity I've gotten either in high school, AAU or college has been a relationship I've developed independent of him."
This is now Luke's second's season at Xavier, which explains why Bill was in the stands Thursday when the 11-seed Musketeers upset six-seed Maryland.
Just look at this adorably proud dad.

He's not just some bandwagon fan for the tourney, though -- here's Bill cheering for Luke's Xavier squad at a gamer earlier this month.
That's a much better look than last March, when Xavier was eliminated from the big dance by Wisconsin in the second round and, as we mentioned earlier in this post, Bill Murray became a sad meme.
Xavier will be an underdog when it next plays -- on Saturday against Florida State in this year's second round -- so we'll see if the Murray men and their Musketeers can avoid a similar fate.
Meanwhile, here's another March Madness celebrity-parent factoid: Seinfeldstar Julia Luis-Dreyfus has a son who plays for her alma mater, Northwestern.
Hey -- the more you know, right?
